Oxjam Birmingham Is All Set To Launch
Ivor Novello award-winning singer-songwriter Scott Matthews, acclaimed spoken word artist Polarbear and legendary folk performer Paul Murphy are among artists confirmed to appear as part of the OxjamBrum Takeover Festival on Saturday 13 October 2012. The twelve-hour festival programme features performances from over forty artists and performers, including singer-songwriters, DJs, bands, MCs and collectives across a site that includes stages in seven venues and secret gigs in Birmingham city centre.
Live music fans from across the region will be treated to sets and sessions from established and emerging artists as well as additional events such as music industry panels and workshops, an album sleeve art auction, live visual art and graffiti, spoken word and comedy. Festival partners include Brum Notes Magazine, live music promoters This is Tmrw, Sugarfoot Stomp, Brum Town, Secret Walls, Louis’ Den and Jazzlines, record labels Eat Good and Speech Fewapy as well as Birmingham Zine Festival and Eye Candy festival.
Music promoters OxjamBrum programme innovative and unusual live music experiences around Birmingham and have presented gigs on canal barges, around the famous 11 bus route, in tennis huts and at festivals, raising well over £24,000 for Oxfam campaigns in the process.
An OxjamBrum spokesperson said:
“We’re very proud of Birmingham’s role in helping to make 2012 such a great year for music and culture in the UK. The OxjamBrum Takeover Festival 2012 continues on this theme by celebrating the immense creative talent our city produces – particularly from the independent music community – with a programme of events that is bigger and better than ever before. We can’t wait to share this fantastic day of gigs, performances, sets and sessions with music fans and culture junkies from across the region, whilst raising funds for Oxfam’s vital work around the world.”
All proceeds from The OxjamBrum Takeover Festival, which is managed and delivered by a team of dedicated volunteers and part of Oxfam’s month-long music festival which takes place across the UK each October, will be donated directly towards the charity’s life saving work to eradicate global poverty.
Oxjam 2012 is set to be launched in London on 24 September with a series of gigs in Oxfam shops from Blur lead guitarist Graham Coxon, electropop stars Hot Chip and DJ producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs among others.
