British alt-folk songwriter WILL VARLEY has come up with a novel idea for the video accompanying his latest single, ‘Weddings and Wars’.

Varley, who released his second album As the Crow Flies back in July 2013, spent weeks using 1990s computer software to create a SNES pastiche chronicling the evolution of man from amoeba to android. As well as directly reflecting the contents of the song, the video also contains references to many retro games, including Commander Keen.

While the track itself takes a somewhat cynical look at the progression of mankind, and the meaninglessness of the individual in the face of civilisation as a whole, it’s hard not to smile at the childish wonder this retro video inspires.
