WATCH: Of Montreal – ‘Last Rites at the Jane Hotel’

Of Montreal have shared a new video for their song ‘Last Rites at the Jane Hotel’. The clip was created using stop motion animation and accompanies a track first unveiled on the band’s most recent album, ‘Aureate Gloom’. Click below to watch.

In a statement, the video’s lead animator Matthew Cooper talked about creating the piece. “The tone of the song’s lyrics are quite dark,” said Cooper, “but the music has this technicolor and upbeat kind of tone to it so I think that’s what I tried to do with the video. There’s a lot of morbid elements. I tried to represent those very vivid, bubblegum sort of colour schemes.”

‘Aureate Gloom’ was released in March. This year has also seen the band put out a new live album, ‘Snare Lustrous Doomings’. The 90-minute double LP was produced for Record Store Day (April 18) and features 19 career-spanning tracks taken from performances at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall and Portland’s Wonder Ballroom.’Snare Lustrous Doomings’ was pressed on 180-gram vinyl in yellow and orange, and limited to 3,000 copies, though it’s currently available to hear via streaming services.
