Arctic Monkeys Win Big At BRIT Awards 2014

Sheffield’s ARCTIC MONKEYS took home two awards at this years BRIT Awards. The band were the only multiple winners at the event winning both Best British Group; beating competition from Bastille, One Direction, Disclosure and Rudimental, and the coveted Best British Album for last years AM. Accepting the final award for the evening for the album, Alex Turner took the microphone and said:

But it’s always waiting there, just around the corner. Ready to make its way back through the sludge and smash through the glass ceiling, looking better than ever. Yeah, that rock’n’roll, it seems like it’s faded away sometimes, but it will never die. And there’s nothing you can do about it.[/quote]

Other winners at this years awards were 17 year old; New Zealand born singer Lorde, who beat Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to the Best International Female category and Daft Punk for Best International Group, beating Arcade Fire, Haim and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

Best British Male was won by legend David Bowie, seeing off Jake Bugg, Tom Odell and James Blake for the accolade. Announced by Noel Gallagher, model Kate Moss read a statement on behalf of the 67 year old; who surprisingly released his album The Next Day last year, which included the phrases “It’s a nice way to end a day” and “Scotland, stay with us” – in a nod to the ongoing independence shouts in the country.

London group Bastille and brother Disclosure led the nominations at the awards with 4 nods each; however, whilst Disclosure left empty handed, Bastille managed to scoop Best British Breakthrough.
