Cardiff Brickstock Festival Kicks Off This Weekend

This Saturday sees the inaugural opening for Cardiff’s Brickstock Festival, a new and unique festival taking place right in the Creative Heart of the city.

Set in the old Brickworks Factory off Trade Street, the venue is located a couple of minutes’ walk from Cardiff Central Station and shopping zones.

Headlining the opening night is the duo of Andy Cairns from Therapy? Who will be supporting Blackwood’s own James Dean Bradfield. Featuring the Vulcan String Quartet, this will be the Manic Street Preachers frontman’s first solo show in ten years.

Spread out over two weeks, there are a multitude of free events and a couple of select ticketed shows; James Dean Bradfield & Andy Cairns, Ed Harcourt (4th November) and Cassette Boy vs DJ Rubbish (5th November).

There is a full lineup of acts across the three weekends, including Captain Accident & The Disasters, Johnny Cage & The Voodoo Groove, Goan Dogs, Milk, Featherjaw, The Moon Birds, Cymbient, Baby Queens, Lady Nade, Junior Bill and Ink. A. Festivalgoers can enjoy food from the likes of Trade Street Café, Tukka Tuk/Purple Poppadom, Dusty Knuckle Pizza Co., Cardiff Vegan Pizza Co., Blanch Baking and more. There will also be drink available from Vale of Glamorgan Brewery, Crafty Devil, Glamorgan Brewing Co., Mad Dog Brewing Co., Tenby Brewing Co. and more.

Brickstock is about much more than just music and food; there will also be art demonstrations, displays and workshops from Cardiff Contemporary, Peak/Copa, Charles Danby & Rob Smith, Limelight, Andy Fung & Pria Borg-Marks, Cardif M.A.D.E., Taking Flight Theatre and many more. Visitors can also enjoy Indian head massages, reiki, a sound healing workshop, craft and woodcarving workshops and a Ken Loach Cinema presentation by Ffilm Cymru. Avid rugby fans won’t have to miss out on seeing the big match between Wales and Australia on Saturday 5 November as Brickstock will have a live screening of it in an open cinema experience.

Brickstock presenters Fizzi Productions and support from property company Portabella, all proceeds from Brickstock 2016 will go to Velindre Cancer Charity.
