BBC Radio 6Music celebrates its 10-year anniversary today, Sunday 11th March. The radio station officially turned ten years old at 7am (GMT) and it wasn’t long before bands took to Twitter to wish the station happy birthday.

Wild Beasts tweeted: “Many thanks and kisses from us, never would have got this far without their support.”

Ross Millard, guitarist from The Futureheads used his band’s Twitter account to say: “Happy Birthday to the wonderful @BBC6Music – a radio station that has meant so much to this band since day 1!”

While, The Maccabees went for the simple #happybirthday6music hashtag to mark their respect.

BBC Radio 6Music is commemorating their achievement with a series of events and programmes to be aired throughout the week. From Monday, Lauren Laverne will be hosting a show from the Maida Vale studios in London, where each day a different artist will perform live.

SBTRKT will be joining Laverne on Monday 12th March, Paul Weller will be her special guest on Tuesday and De La Soul will play live on Wednesday. Spiritualized and Orbital will perform on Thursday and Friday, respecitively.

On Friday evening, a special night of live music from London’s Southbank Centre is planned. Graham Coxon, Public Image LTD and Laura Marling are among the acts due to perform. Scroll down and click to view the Steve Lamacq narrated animation about the history of BBC Radio6 Music.
