The Darkness’ Musical?

The Darkness’ frontman Justin Hawkins has said that he would love to write a musical in the future. The singer, who is currently putting the finishing touches to the reunited rockers’ third studio album, has said that he has three songs written for a stage production which was going to be set in his hometown of Lowestoft, but doesn’t think it’ll ever see the light of day. Speaking to the Toronto Sun, the singer said that he wasn’t keen to make a musical out of The Darkness’ back catalogue, but would like to write a brand new show. Hawkins said:

“Something I’ve always wanted to do is a musical but, you know, musical from beginning to end, not like a musical of our songs horned into a storyline.”

The singer added that he’d penned three tracks from a show called The Collapse Of The Lowestoft Fishing Industry, but that he’d not worked on it for a long time. He added:

“I started to work on one that was called The Collapse of the Lowestoft Fishing Industry. The main character has lost his throat to cancer so you have to sing all the songs in a voicebox. I’ve got about three of the songs for it and the storyline but that’s the stage it’s been at since 1995. Don’t know if I’ll ever get around to finishing it.”

He also said that the band were nearly done with their new record and that he would like to finish it on 17th March, which is his birthday. He added:

“I think we’ve got nine of the required songs done or finished, all sounding shiny and good. It’s kind of nearly finished now. I’d like it to be on my birthday really, which is the 17th of March. I think that would be the ultimate gift to myself.”
