Lily Allen has come out of musical retirement and is working on a new album, according to reports. The ‘Smile’ singer has been spotted writing new material at RAK Studios in St John’s Wood, London, says the Daily Star, and could release a new LP in 2013. Allen announced her retirement from the pop world two years ago and, aside from a flurry of rumours that she could make a comeback as a country artist, has largely stayed away from the music industry ever since. But a source confirmed:

“Lily has been in the studio trying different sounds and writing new tracks. She’s not at a stage where she can start recording but the new album is definitely under way and there’s a chance it could be released early next year.”

They added:

“When Lily retired she honestly thought she’d never record again. But she started writing for the new Bridget Jones musical and that gave her the bug back. Her life has changed so much since her last album and she now has a different perspective. Lily wants a more mature sound and is penning tracks about [daughter] Ethel and [husband] Sam.”

Lily Allen released her last studio album, ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’, in 2009. She gave birth to her and her husband Sam Cooper’s first child, Ethel Mary, in November last year and also recently turned her hand to running a London fashion store, Lucy In Disguise, while her songs for the new musical version of ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’, are set to be heard this year.
