LISTEN: Basement Jaxx – ‘Unicorn’

Four years on from their last official studio release, British electronic duo BASEMENT JAXX have unveiled ‘Unicorn’, the first track to be revealed from their new full length album (due for release this Summer).

Since the release of Scars, the pair (Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton) have been keeping busy. Along with composer Stephen Price (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), they scored the soundtrack for 2011 horror/comedy Attack the Block, as well as composing music to accompany artwork in the Tate Modern.

‘Unicorn’ is the first track officially confirmed to be on their upcoming, as-yet-untitled sixth studio album, and it’s a little bit brilliant. House beats and crisp electronics combine with the track’s understated vocals to bright, breezy effect. While the lyrics are questionable (unless they’re making reference to a certain Charlie the Unicorn, which would probably make more sense), but with a song like this, the rhythm is all anyone really cares about.

Further details regarding the album are yet to be announced.

Basement Jaxx are confirmed for the following dates this year:

JULY
04 – Wireless Festival, London
06 – Wireless Festival, Birmingham
19 – Shakedown Festival, Brighton

AUGUST
03 – Camp Bestival, Lulworth

SEPTEMBER
